On this first day of our Begin Anew journey, we are going to the cinema.
The film we are going to see is a documentary about a person you are quite familiar with...
You take your seat in the theater, the red curtain opens, and the white screen appears. You can see the main character of the film is entering the scene... it's you, and the story of the film is your past year.
Please put your phone away, and find yourself a quiet spot where you can be undisturbed for the next 30 minutes. Please have a pen and your printed copy of the Begin Anew workbook ready on pages 2 and 3 (you can glue them together to turn it into a full A3 circle).
Listen to the audio and watch the film on the cinema screen that is your own mind. Prepare yourself to slow down.
After you have finished the audio, write down the key events that you remember of your year on the outside of the circle in your workbook. Personally, I like to do a second round of documenting key events with the help of my calendar and the photo stream on my phone. I find it interesting to see which events I have stored in my memory - and which I forgot. To sum up today, what would be the title of the film that was your life this year?
If you are at risk of wanting to be a perfect student, I recommend the kitchen timer method: Set an alarm for 30 minutes and stop working when time is up - irrespective of how far you have come. Take this course as an opportunity to enjoy the art of imperfection.
If you have a chance to meet your buddy today, you could tell them what you found remarkable about your film. What stands out? What surprised you?
Enjoy the cinema! Tomorrow, we will take a look behind the curtains of your film-set and ask how you felt being in this film this year.
